Planet meanings in astrology
Traditional associations, not predictions. The Moon’s position is shown above, but Moon aspects are not included in this page’s aspect lists.
- Sun
- The Sun sets the season of the month. Where it travels is what the sky is about right now, and what today's other planets aspect most often.
- Moon
- The Moon is the fastest body in the sky. It colors moods and daily rhythms, changes sign every two to three days, and its aspects come and go within hours.
- Mercury
- Mercury governs the information weather: messages, plans, paperwork, commerce, and short trips. Its retrograde periods are the ones most people feel first.
- Venus
- Venus tunes relationships, taste, spending, and what feels pleasant or valuable. Watch its aspects for the tone of social and money matters today.
- Mars
- Mars sets the temperature of action — pace, irritation, courage, and appetite for conflict. Hard aspects to Mars mark the day's friction points.
- Jupiter
- In astrology, Jupiter is associated with growth, opportunity, and excess. The duration of a sky aspect depends on both planets’ motion.
- Saturn
- Saturn is the long game: commitments, tests, and structures that outlast the month. Its aspects are the ones you plan around.

How Do Current Transits Affect Your Birth Chart?
Sky transits describe the positions shared by everyone at a given time. A personal transit chart overlays this moving sky on your natal chart and shows which contacts touch your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, and houses. That comparison needs three things from you:
- Date of birth
- Time of birth (improves houses and the Moon)
- Birthplace

About This Data
- Positions and time
- Calculated with Swiss Ephemeris through pyswisseph, with its Moshier fallback where ephemeris files are unavailable. Positions are geocentric and use the tropical zodiac. All displayed times are UTC.
- What the aspect lists include
- The Sun and Mercury through Pluto, using conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition. The current-aspect list is filtered by the calculator’s configured orbs. Moon, North Node, and Chiron aspects are not included in the current or upcoming lists. Not listed does not mean no aspect exists.
- Freshness and availability
- Successful calculations are cached for about 30 minutes. Data older than 90 minutes carries a delay notice; after six hours, the dynamic sections are hidden. We do not substitute demonstration data. Chiron’s position is omitted if its ephemeris file is unavailable.
- Exact crossings and interpretations
- “Nearest exact crossing” can be before or after the data timestamp; it is not the same as the next crossing. An unavailable time does not guarantee a crossing outside the search window. Duration is not calculated. Interpretations are astrological associations, not scientifically established predictions of personal events.
The idea, in brief
What Are Current Transits in Astrology?
Current transits are where the planets are in the sky right now, measured along the ecliptic in the tropical zodiac. When astrologers say current astrological transits, they mean two things at once: the positions themselves — for example, Saturn in Aries — and the aspects those moving planets form with each other as the days pass. When recent calculations are available, this page shows both the planetary positions and their sky aspects.
Natal transits are the same sky read against a birth chart. A transit planet is the moving body; a natal planet is the fixed point it contacts. Transit Saturn square natal Sun happens only for people whose natal Sun sits near that square — the planet transits are shared, but the contact is personal. The difference between the two charts is exactly this fixed map versus moving overlay.
The vocabulary is small. An aspect is the angle between two points — conjunction 0°, sextile 60°, square 90°, trine 120°, opposition 180°. The orb is how far the angle is from exact: 0°42′ is close and 5° is wider. Applying means the angular gap to exact is decreasing; separating means that gap is increasing. An exact transit is the moment the orb closes to 0°.
A sky aspect’s duration depends on the relative motion of both planets and the allowed orb. Retrograde motion can produce repeated exact crossings or reverse an approach before it reaches exact. The nearest exact crossing listed here may be before or after the data timestamp; it is separate from the current applying or separating state. An unavailable exact time does not imply that a crossing must occur outside the search window.
