Transit aspects

Transit aspects are the angles between a moving planet and a natal planet. This page is the five major types used in the calculator.

In a transit chart, you are not reading two natal charts against each other. You are reading Transit Saturn to Natal Sun — a moving body to a fixed point. Orb tells you how close that angle is to exact. Applying or separating tells you whether it is still closing. For the full timing method, see how to read astrology transits.

Conjunction

0°

0°. The transiting planet sits on a natal point and fuses with it. Volume is high. Whether that feels like a start or a weight depends on the planets, not the aspect alone.

Sextile

60°

60°. An opening that still needs a small action. Weaker than a trine, more available than a square.

Square

90°

90°. Friction that asks for a decision. Squares are the aspects most people notice without being told to look.

Trine

120°

120°. Support and flow. Easy to miss if you only watch for crisis. Use it; it will not usually knock.

Opposition

180°

180°. The transit pulls the natal planet into awareness through the other side of the chart — often other people, a deadline, or a split in attention.

Orbs

The calculator uses tighter orbs for slow planets than for the Sun and Moon. A 4° Pluto contact can still be in play; a 4° Moon contact is already gone. Strength labels on the result list follow that ratio: very strong inside 1°, then strong, moderate, mild. The orbs, applying, and separating section in the guide expands on direction.

Sky aspects vs natal aspects

Aspects in the sky today are planet-to-planet and do not use your birth chart. Personal transit aspects always name a natal planet. That is the same split as a transit chart vs natal chart: fixed map first, moving sky second. Current transits shows the sky. The transit chart calculator shows transits to you.
